Homeschooling as a private school (option 1) does not require parents to meet teaching qualifications or give standardized tests. However, option 1 homeschool parents must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>File an annual private school affidavit form with the Superintendent of Public Instruction between October 1<sup>st<\/sup> and 15<sup>th<\/sup> or upon beginning their program.<\/li><li>Keep attendance records.<\/li><li>Use the English language to teach their children in courses similar to those taught in public schools.<\/li><li>Be able to teach competently.<\/li><li>Keep records of immunizations or personal beliefs exemptions.<\/li><li>Keep records of subjects and courses taught.<\/li><li>Maintain a list of instructor addresses and qualifications.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>California public school subjects generally include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>English<\/li><li>Math<\/li><li>Social Studies<\/li><li>Science<\/li><li>Health<\/li><li>Physical Education<\/li><li>Driver Education<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please consult the Department of Education for more information on <a href=\"https:\/\/lightsailed.com\/homeschool\/\">homeschooling<\/a> under this and the other two homeschool options in California.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>How to Withdraw Your Child from School in California<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If your children currently attend a public or private school, you will need to withdraw them to homeschool. In many cases, sending a withdrawal letter by certified mail to your school district will suffice. You must file the annual private school affidavit form between October 1-15. If those dates have already passed, file the form as soon as you begin your homeschool program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Special Education Provisions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>California has no additional requirements for parents wishing to homeschool their special needs children.
