Analfabeta y sin saber nada del mundo exterior, Emma escapó a los diecinueve años, estableciendo una carrera como artista y forjando amistades con Frida Kahlo y Diego Rivera, así como con artistas e intelectuales europeos. El retrato de su infancia que surge de este relato clarividente inspira en el lector un asombro especial hacia la deslumbrante vida de una talentosa escritora cuyo talento permaneció oculto por demasiado tiempo.
