Synopsis: La gran sultana doña Catalina de Oviedo es una comedia de Miguel de Cervantes, ambientada en Constantinopla hacia 1600.
La obra se inspira en la historia de Catalina de Oviedo, esclava del gran sultán turco Amurates III, quien se enamoró de ella y la liberó para desposarla, permitiéndole conservar sus costumbres y sus creencias cristianas.
Tres comedias de Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra muestran su imagen del mundo islámico: La gran sultana doña Catalina de Oviedo, El gallardo español, y Los baños de Argel, también trata este tema El amante liberal, que narra una historia sentimental entre cristianos cautivos en Nicosia.
