Cuatro mujeres se conocen en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de Pediatría de un hospital. Cada una lleva a cuestas alegrías, desilusiones, silencio y secretos que forman el tapete de la vida. Tres de ellas se conocen por otras estadías en el hospital, están a cargo de niños que sufren de enfermedades crónicas que les obligan a ser admitidos continuamente al hospital, y son las madres de la UCI. La cuarta, Carmen, aparece una noche en la Sala de Emergencia. Su hija está muy grave porque la atropelló un coche cuyo conductor ha escapado. Este golpe duro someterá a prueba su matrimonio y creencias, y hará al lector descubrir que el amor puede ser solitario, y que el silencio duele. En el tiempo de esta larga estadía en el hospital, las cuatro mujeres entretejerán hebras invisibles de solidaridad: se reirán, llorarán, pelearán, vivirán, compartirán el peso de sus soledades. Four women meet in the pediatric ICU of a hospital. Each one of them carries the baggage, joys, disappointments, silence and secrets that form the canvas of life. Three of them are known from other stays in the hospital, they are in charge of children suffering from chronic diseases that force them into continual hospital admissions, they are mothers of the ICU. The fourth, Carmen, appears one night in the ER. Her daughter is very serious condition after she has been run over by a car whose driver has escaped. This hard blow will test her marriage and beliefs, will make the reader discover that love can be lonely and that silences hurts. In the time of this long hospital stay, the four women will weave invisible threads of solidarity: they will laugh, they will cry, they will fight, they will live, they will share the weight of their solitudes. And together they will face the most difficult decision for Carmen. Because when you first enter the hospital door, you always leave behind some of the happiness you bring.
