CHICAGO TRIBUNE: Gurnee students ranked nationally in LightSail 25 Challenge

kwxnswce_400x400The Chicago Tribune featured the 3rd place winners of The LightSail 25, River Trail School in Gurnee School District 56, in the community section article. During the month-long challenge, River Trail School students read 1,184 minutes and will receive $1,000 worth of e-books from LightSail as their prize.

River Trail librarian Lauren Weir said of the challenge, “My favorite part was the daily recognition where the playing field was equalized and anybody could be in the top 10, not by reading ability, but by using grit and perseverance to put in the time.”

Two of the school’s teachers – Vita Carnduff and Sandy Hamden – landed in the top 5 teachers in the country in the challenge. Their quotes and more are in the full version of the release here.
