3 Must-Read History Books for Homeschoolers

History books make up a good portion of a homeschooler’s syllabus. History is a fun subject to learn, especially when you use intriguing books! When choosing books for your homeschool, try to pick well-written books that inspire discussion, and, if possible, have beautiful pictures. These history books about brave men and women will help your students discover the hero in them as well.

1. Hercules: The Twelve Labors (A Greek Myth) by Paul D. Storrie

This book gives middle-grade students a visual glimpse into a popular myth. In this short story, Hercules’ stepmother takes out her frustrations on him by making him do 12 impossible tasks. The author consulted several historians and well-known books about the subject to ensure historical accuracy. The illustrations in this book are bright and larger than life. Your students will think this is one of the best ancient history books to read! Graphic novels are a great way to teach a subject because students won’t even realize they’re learning.

2. Marco Polo: Dangers and Visions by Marco Tabilio

This book centers around the life of Marco Polo, an explorer from the middle ages. This is one of the most unique history books for kids because it’s presented in puzzle form. At the end of the story, you’ll find a brief biography about Marco Polo’s life. Your students will love that this history lesson comes in a comic book, and parents will be glad knowing they’ve exposed their child to Italian illustrations! This is an excellent option for parents who want to include beautiful, unique books in their library.
